Acute anxiety and panic attacks are not life threatening and can be overcome to an appreciable extent but the patient should be willing to cooperate and keen to come out of it. A good doctor and a counselor should be taken into confidence. Drugs may help but they are mere suppressants. Patients should seek the help of family, friends and self-help groups to help overcome acute anxiety. Good food, exercise, meditation, engaging in productive work, and gaining self-belief will go a long way in curing panic attacks and acute anxieties.
